Greetings from LEARN NC!
We hope that you’re having a wonderful summer!
At LEARN NC, we are busy offering Common Core professional development and preparing new fall resources for you and your colleagues! Highlights of the projects we are working on this summer include: an educators’ guide to Election 2012, a podcast series for teachers, a guide for pre-service teachers using LEARN NC resources, and re-launching Instructify!
As mentioned in last month’s newsletter, we are offering a series of three-week online professional development courses focused on the Common Core State Standards and NC Essential Standards. This course provides teachers with an overview of the new Common Core and Essential standards and allows teachers to work alongside LEARN NC’s Common Core specialists to rework a unit of study that aligns to the new standards. The next course begins July 27th and registration is currently limited to 22, so register now! In addition to these exciting new resources for Common Core, we are also providing a number of other courses open for enrollment. Visit our course page for registration.
As you and your colleagues align your lessons to the new Common Core standards, keep LEARN NC in mind. We are one of the few organizations that have aligned all of our resources to the new Common Core and NC Essential Standards. Not sure where to start? Just go to our Common Core standard page and find the subject/grade that you are teaching. Under each objective for that grade level, you will find a link labelled “Find aligned resources.” After clicking that link, you will find all of the LEARN NC lessons that meet that goal. Easy as pie! For those of you who teach subjects outside of Math and English Language Arts, don’t worry! We have also aligned all of our lessons to the new Essential Standards, which can be easily explored through our Essential Standards main page.
Check out the Kenan Fellows page to view the fellows’ newly posted lessons. Next month, we’ll be posting lessons developed by teachers who recently attended an NCCAT seminar and a collection of resources to help teachers, administrators, and parents of elementary students better understand the new standards for Mathematics.
To keep up with our exciting work, follow us daily on Twitter and Facebook. We’ll keep you updated on our projects and educational trends. And, don’t forget to check our weekly trivia. Winners will be entered into a drawing for a free LEARN NC online professional development course.
Keep enjoying summer!
