Education reference entries: Bigger, bolder, better
Posted February 17, 2009 · by Emily · in New on the website, We're working on it
We’re in the process of overhauling our education reference collection. The collection began as a series of brief entries explaining terms used in education; those entries are now being developed into longer reference articles. Updated entries are detailed, research-based articles that explore the history and theory of an educational concept and incorporate concrete suggestions for the classroom. Recently published articles include:
- Bloom’s Taxonomy
- Code-switching
- Cooperative Learning
- Critical Literacy
- Culturally Relevant Teaching
- Digital Game-based Learning
- Experiential Education
- Jigsaw
- Modeling
- Montessori
- Paideia
- Project-based Learning
- Socratic Method
- Team Teaching
Stay tuned to the “Best Practices” area on the home page; we’re updating this collection frequently.

You have such a wonderful website, but it is so huge. Not to be an old fuddy-duddy, but there is so much good information one doesn’t begin to scratch the surface with a “search.” Is there any published or publishable document I can hold in my hands and read and mark on that would tell me everything/most of what you have on this very wonderful site.
Thanks for your comment and for your kind words about LEARN NC. I understand what you mean: There’s more on the website than even I can begin to wrap my mind around. Unfortunately we don’t have a printable site index, and I don’t know that you’d actually want to print such a document out. The site contains 3,684 lesson plans, 4,111 multimedia records (audio, video, and images), 3,438 records of recommended websites, 477 best practice articles, 454 pages of field trip opportunities, and 51 pages of online course opportunities. We publish more every day, so any printed index would be quickly outdated.
The best way to get a picture of what’s on the website might be to look at our site map, where you can find browsing options for each of those categories: http://www.learnnc.org/about/sitemap
In addition, you can see all the topics addressed on the website by viewing the list of keywords: http://www.learnnc.org/lp/tags/
I’m afraid, though, that none of these options will make you feel any less overwhelmed by the scope of the website. Please let us know if there’s a specific kind of resource you’re looking for, and we’d be happy to help you find it.
