We’re upgrading our Moodle server; downtime scheduled Nov. 13-14

Posted November 9, 2010 · by Bill Ferris · in Bulletin board, Online courses, We're working on it

On Monday, November 15, LEARN NC and North Carolina e-Learning for Educators will begin using Moodle version 1.9. To facilitate the transition, the Moodle server will be down on November 13 and 14. Students and instructors should plan accordingly.

In addition to a number of security updates and visual enhancements, the Moodle 1.9 upgrade will bring added functionality to the course email system, the course Wiki plug-in, and the grade book. These new enhancements have better up-front instructions, information display, and a much more intuitive and streamlined interface.

If you experience any problems with the new version of Moodle, please contact the Help Desk by email, or call 919-962-HELP (4357).

Earn a $55 stipend through new online course

Posted October 19, 2010 · by Bill Ferris · in Online courses

Teachers who complete the online course Transform Your Classroom Culture to Boost Student Achievement will receive CEU credit, and will be eligible for a $55 stipend. This course from the UNC-Chapel Hill School of Social Work and e-Learning for Educators will teach participants concrete strategies for building a culture of achievement in their classrooms. The course will cover a set of interrelated teaching practices that motivate students to work hard, take risks, ask questions, and start viewing themselves as successful students.

Because this is a new course designed to be a preliminary research study of the strategies taught, we are seeking 30 course participants who are willing to take part in a course evaluation. Participation would involve allowing the course developers to observe you in your classroom for 20 minutes before you take the course and again for 20 minutes after you take the course. After completing the course and both observations, participants will earn $55 and CEU credit.

Evaluators are currently seeking groups of five or more from schools across the state to participate in the study. More details and consent materials will be provided to interested groups of teachers on a first-come, first-served basis.

Tuition for this course is free.  Each interested participant should complete their own registration form. For a full course description or to register, please see the course description page.
