  • Help Your Students Write Killer Thesis Statements

    January 3, 2008

You can probably tell within the first paragraph whether a student’s paper is any good. And it’s no surprise that the kids who did well are the ones who heeded your advice about the importance of the thesis statement. But if a few of them didn’t get the message, have them read studenthacks.org’s post, How to Write a Fascinating Thesis Statement.

The post focuses on…well, focus. That is, the more specific a thesis is, the less likely the paper will wander all over the place. Other ideas include developing strong opinions about the topic at hand. Having an opinion one way or another will make the paper more interesting for them to write – not to mention more interesting for you to read. -BILL FERRIS
