Monday by the numbers
August 17, 2009Today’s MBTN is a little short because I don’t subscribe to the same newsfeeds as Bill, so I apologize and beg for your mercy. These two are about going back to school, which, for a good number of you, is very soon. I’m also going to cheat a little bit by calling them “Back-2-School”. See what I did there? By the numbers!
The Back-2-School Checklist for Teachers
What? You haven’t started planning already? You better get rolling! This list starts out 1 month in advance and takes you right up to Day 1. You can still look back on the past item lists to see if there’s something you might’ve missed or check them off your list. This is some great stuff if you’re Prezbo from The Wire and you’re just starting out with your first teaching gig. The seasoned veteran can also benefit from this list, too, because advice about updating your class web page might not be on your existing checklist.
Back to School with LifeHacker
LifeHacker is dropping a ton of tips for Back to School. Some of these are aimed right at the college student, but you can still set those tips aside for yourself if you’re a student teacher or just knocking out some professional development. There are still a few tips you can pass on to your students. FlashCardMachine lets students create, share, and search through existing flashcards. Their tips about note-taking can help students get back in the habit, especially after a summer away.
